Skateboard Wheels

Skateboard wheels are an essential part of any skateboard. They are available in a variety of designs, each with its own specific characteristics. In fact, there are so many varieties that it can often becoming confusing for someone new to skateboarding.

Different styles of skateboarding require different skateboard wheels. Freestyle skaters, as well as those that prefer to ride ramps and half-pipes, almost always use smaller, harder wheels. These wheels are preferred for this type of skating because they help maintain a low center of gravity as well as low rolling speeds.

By comparison, those that prefer riding longboards tend to choose larger, softer skateboard wheels. The softer material allows the wheels to better grip concrete and/or asphalt while riding, making them more stable when carving turns. The larger diameter also allows them higher rolling speeds.
